Received my login details for the new community website from Harper Collins yeaterday and have logged in and filled in my profile.

There has been a lot of speculattion around the net about publishers like Harper Collins and Penguin abandoning the traditional; route of going through agents to find new talent.Harper Collins through Authonomy, Penguin through sponsoring competitions.

One writer thought it could be a cynical attempt to try and part writers from their royalties and sign them up on worse terms than they would get if they had gone through a conventional agent. There is obviously some reaction by the publishers to the slowdown in book sales caused by the interactive nature of the internet. Are they on a cost cutting exersise?

As soon as I have read their terms and conditions, I will post them here so we can see what we may be getting into. the main thing i am looking for on the site is, if I post my work on the site, do I lose any copyright.

Be very careful what you sign up to. Harper Collins Authonomy looks good at first sight but I won’t be posting until i get the terms and conditions.
