Crime writing is big business.
Lots of people know that there is a novel inside them just bursting to get out but haven’t got a clue where to start.
Crime is one of the most satisfying things to write about because, well, there is so much of it about. If we haven’t been a victim of crime ourselves, chances are, we know someone who has. Crime fiction is structured in a way that the reader has come to understand. whether it be cosy, hardboiled, Police procedural, medical, legal or any other type of fiction that crime plays a prominent part. Crime fiction needs to be pacy, well written and have good characterisation. Interpersonal relationships play a crucial role in today’s modern crime novel as do the correct treatment of forensics and crime scene protocols to avoid contamination of evidence.
True crime needs to be written from an objective point of view, even if you believe that a prisoner is innocent and wish to present a case for their freedom or highlight a miscarriage of justice then you must let the reader be the jury. Present both sides of the case as though you were in a court of law with proper examination of events, witness statements and physical evidence. Do that and you will have a best-selling book on your hands.
We at Cri-Fi.com will try and help you on the path to getting your book published with information on what’s happening in the publishing world and details of new releases so you know what is hot at the moment and what future trends for publishing in the crime genre might be.
